Baby, It’s Cold Outside.

Shipping to Alaska

Shipping to Alaska in winter can create major challenges--especially related to extremely low temperatures.  But SeaWide Express offers services to minimize those challenges.  They are called “Protect from Freeze” (PFF) and “Keep from Freezing” (KFF).

Freezing temperatures can damage cargo including pharmaceuticals, beverages, , cosmetics, batteries, paints, chemicals, and electronics.  SeaWide Express offers, for a fee, that cargo shipped during cold winter months will be kept from freezing by adding the use of insulated and pallet insulation wrap during the PFF and KFF season.   Insulated containers are used in the extreme cold of Alaska during the winter.  These units are used to keep freight from getting too cold.

SeaWide Express also advises its customers to protect freight by:

  • Shipping early in the week to avoid freight sitting in truck trailers over weekends.

  • Label freight and bills of lading with “Protect from Freeze” and request PFF at booking.

  • Package goods properly – including Styrofoam or other insulation materials.

  • Pay attention to weather forecasts in areas that your shipment will pass through in transit.

Ask the SeaWide Express team for more details to ensure your freight is protected from freezing!
