SeaWide helps a remote utility avoid a major work stoppage

Recently, a power utility in the interior of Alaska faced a dire situation. A crew retrofitting a portion of the plant found that a crucial piece of equipment had not been ordered. Without it, work would have to stop and the crew would be idled. Potentially, the work stoppage could adversely limit power production at the onset of winter.

Through the utility’s normal sourcing process, delivery would have taken seven to ten days. Direct air shipment would save time, but the cost would have been $13,000.

On a Tuesday, a manager at the utility turned to SeaWide for help. Our routing experts arranged a fast, but affordable solution. We got the equipment delivered to our docks in Fife, Washington on Wednesday morning, where it was picked up immediately by an air transport firm and flown to Anchorage (one of the world’s busiest cargo airports).

On Thursday, a small cargo plane carried the shipment to the destination airport in a small Alaskan town for same-day delivery to the utility. The total shipping cost: $6,000.

Year-round, businesses rely on SeaWide to handle their toughest shipping challenges. SeaWide and our partners are experts in finding economical ways to get shipments to any destination in Alaska, on time, in any season.
